Freshman Year Counseling
Freshman students and their parents shouldn't spend too much time thinking and planning for college. This is the time for students to become immersed in their high School experience and strive to excel in all areas. The student should think about how to make the most of their high school years and begin to develop and implement their four year academic and extracurricular plan. Success of this plan will give the student the opportunity to have choices when it does come to college admission time.
Freshman year services include:
- A meeting with student and parent before the academic year begins or shortly after to ensure the four year plan is appropriate and either revise or begin implementation.
- Late fall and/ or January meeting to review first semester academic and extracurricular activities; investigate, plan potential summer opportunities.
- Spring meeting to review academic progress, review, choose appropriate summer activities.
- End of academic year meeting to review progress, course selections, considerations for early standardized testing.
Sophomore Year Counseling
By the beginning of the sophomore year, students are comfortable and involved in their high school experience. They should be developing their extracurricular activities and begin focusing on their interests and areas of talent. Sophomore year is the year to refine, and concentrate on those interests, skills and talents. Preparation begins for early PSAT standardized testing and consideration of those results. Meetings are
in person as well as phone calls.
Freshman year services include:
- A thorough and realistic meeting with student and parent prior to the academic year to include a reflection of freshman year academic performance. Develop a three year plan for extracurricular choices and decisions, academic performance and standardized testing.
- January meeting to review academics progress and plan summer activities.
- June meeting to review academic performance, refine junior year outline, plan standardized testing dates, tutoring if necessary, revise final two year plan as necessary.
